Minister Deus Sangu gave business owners a three-month deadline. He works in the Prime Minister's Office for labour. His order says all unregistered workplaces must sign up with OSHA. The Occupational Safety and Health Authority needs this registration. The countdown starts next year. Sangu made this announcement in Dar es Salaam at the OSHA offices in Kinondoni. This was his first visit since President Samia Suluhu Hassan put him in the job. He stressed that the agency's main job is to stop worker deaths, injuries, and sickness. Proper registration of every workplace is the first step for that. It lets OSHA enforce safety rules and do inspections.
The legal basis comes from the 2003 Safety Act. Sangu told OSHA staff to work hard and help employers build better safety systems. Employers should listen to OSHA experts. The agency's boss, Khadija Mwenda, promised the minister full cooperation from her team. She said they would perform their duties well. The minister's deputy, Rahma Kisuo, and the Labour Commissioner, Susan Mkangwa, joined the visit. OSHA itself falls under the labour ministry. Its mission is to create and enforce workplace safety standards nationwide. This happens through registration, site checks, and giving professional advice to improve conditions.
