Comey hit with perjury rap as Trump cheers

A Virginia grand jury has indicted former FBI Director James Comey on charges of making false statements and obstructing justice. The charges stem from his September 2020 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding FBI investigations into Russian election interference and Hillary Clinton's email server. Prosecutors allege Comey lied about authorizing an FBI source to leak classified information to media outlets.

The indictment arrives after President Trump urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue his political opponents more aggressively. Comey maintains his innocence and expresses faith in the judicial system. His arraignment has been scheduled for October 9 in Alexandria, Virginia, with the five-year statute of limitations set to expire next week.
