Cops nab 12 illegal miners in Ahanta West plantation swoop

Police locked up twelve men who were digging for gold without permission around Tumetu and Princess Town areas. The suspects must stay behind bars at Sekondi prison until they return to court next Tuesday. Officers caught ten of these men working at a palm tree farm during a special operation. Two more suspects were nabbed at the Ghana Rubber Estate plantation nearby.

Lord Yankey leads the group of arrested miners along with Caleb Adu Kwaw and Stephen Agyei. Ebenezer Barnes, Mathew Somagevi, and Paa Grant also face charges for the same crime. Bashiru Kaviru, Joseph Borney, Aminu Issah, Kofi Sogah, Albert Normah, and Robert Mensah complete the dozen suspects. All these men were doing illegal mining work around the Ahanta West area when police swooped down on them. The court at Takoradi Harbour heard their case and sent them away until July 8, 2025.

Police found four water pumps that the miners used to wash dirt and rocks. Officers also took away one tricycle that had the number M-20-WR 1045 written on it. Two motorbikes were also taken from the mining spots as evidence. The suspects told police they were guilty when officers asked them questions about their activities. This happened after a well-planned police raid across different locations around the municipality.
