Council Chaos as Handcuffed Thief Shoots His Way Out

Workers ran from government offices Friday after hearing gunshots near the courthouse. A robbery suspect broke free from police custody during court proceedings. The man somehow unlocked his handcuffs and escaped the building. Officers fired warning shots when they saw him running away. The suspect shot back at police and disappeared into the streets.

Police believe the suspect already had a gun when he escaped. His wife faces arrest charges for sneaking the weapon to him during court. The man was supposed to appear Monday instead of Friday. Investigators think someone helped plan the early court date and escape. Sources suspect police officers might have worked with the criminal.

The shooting scared district council workers who fled their desks. People described the scene as frightening and confusing. Moses Nkhana from the youth organization wants answers about how this happened. Police have not explained how the suspect got his weapon or keys. The man remains missing and may have crossed into South Africa through Zambia.
