A judge canceled an arrest warrant for NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako after he showed up late and apologized at an Accra court on Tuesday. Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay warned the politician known as Wontumi to arrive promptly for future hearings. His lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, accepted blame for telling his client the wrong start time.
The court issued the warrant at 9:40 a.m., after neither Wontumi nor his attorneys appeared for a scheduled case conference. They arrived minutes later and waited until proceedings resumed. Prosecutors told the judge they had not filed the paperwork because a witness abroad had not yet signed the statements.
Wontumi faces charges with Kwame Antwi for illegal transfers of mineral rights and for running unlicensed mines at Samreboi. He denies wrongdoing and remains free on bail. The case returns to court on November 4.
