Court Slaps Warrants On Kayanja Sodomy Accusers

A court ordered Monday's arrests for three people who promised Moses Tumwine would show up for trial. Tracy Namugga, Patrick Ayebare, and Abdul Kayondo must face consequences because Tumwine missed court. The judge also approved an arrest warrant for Tumwine himself but said the trial would continue without him.

Tumwine stands accused with eight others of making false claims about pastor Robert Kayanja. The group allegedly lied about Kayanja committing sodomy. The remaining defendants must start defending themselves against charges that they entered Rubaga Miracle Cathedral to bother Kayanja.

Martin Kagoro testified about working at the church with weapons and earning weekly pay. The judge told him to stay on topic. The case began in September 2021 when the group reportedly gave police false information that wasted resources. Former police officers among the accused gave fake statements to a detective.

Kayanja denied everything last October and said his rival pastor Jackson Ssenyonga planned the attack. He mentioned similar false claims from 2010 and 2013 that resulted in light sentences. Kayanja asked the court for a stronger punishment this time.
