The Federal Capital Territory High Court stopped enforcement of a previous court ruling against Benue politician Ewaoche Benjamin Obe. Justice M.A. Madugu granted the stay order after Obe challenged his eviction from his Abuja home. The former African Action Congress governorship candidate lost his house when a Dutse Magistrate Court ruled against him last September. Officials threw his belongings onto the street following that court decision. His wife Christiana Obe had secured a secret judgment claiming the property belonged to her family.
Christiana Obe transferred the house to her twin brother Thomas Onuh through his company Jesryte Global Resources Ltd. Lawyer Jefferson Uwaifoh argued that executing the magistrate court ruling would cause serious damage to his client. The high court agreed and issued Motion Ex Parte number FCT/HC/BW/M/554/2025 to protect Obe's interests. Court officials posted the new order on the disputed building at Sagwari Layout in Dutse. The ruling prevents Christiana Obe and her brother from selling or occupying the four-bedroom house.
The original magistrate court had refused to handle land title disputes and referred the case to higher courts. Obe approached the FCT High Court under case number FCT/HC/CV/1664/2025 to challenge the property transfer. The court scheduled hearings for July 16, 2025 to resolve the ownership dispute. Both sides must return to court for the next phase of legal proceedings. The stay order remains active until judges make their final determination.
