Two little boys died Friday morning after falling into a pond near their home. The cousins tried to help each other but both lost their lives. Sohan Ali was seven years old and Siam Hossain was six years old. They lived together with their families at Chhoto Lahiri village. Both kids studied at the same religious school nearby.
The fathers of these boys work far away from home. They have jobs that keep them busy all week long. The children had just come back from school on Thursday evening. Their dads wanted them to spend the weekend at home with family. Everyone felt happy to see the boys return safely.
Friday started like any normal day for the young cousins. They woke up early and decided to play outside their house. The pond sat right next to where they lived. Nobody thought anything dangerous would happen that morning. The water looked calm and peaceful.
Siam slipped into the water and could not swim back out. His older cousin saw what happened and jumped right into help him. Sohan wanted to save his younger relative from drowning. Both children struggled against the deep water but could not escape. Their bodies floated on top of the pond later that day.
Police chief Shawkat Ali Sarkar came to see what had occurred. He told everyone that this was just a terrible accident. The families brought both boys home after finding them. Nobody could have prevented this sad event from happening.
