Cowboys’ Marshawn Kneeland dies at 24

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after sending farewell messages to relatives, according to police dispatch recordings. The 24-year-old athlete transmitted group texts to family members hours before authorities discovered his body near a crashed vehicle in Frisco, Texas, following a police pursuit that began late on Wednesday night.

Dispatch audio revealed that Kneeland's girlfriend warned law enforcement about his mental health struggles and access to weapons, expressing fears he might harm himself. Officers located his vehicle along Dallas Parkway around 1:30 a.m. after losing sight of it during the chase that started when troopers attempted a traffic stop in Addison.

The second-round draft pick from Michigan had recently scored his first professional touchdown during a Monday night game. His mother passed away unexpectedly in February 2024, adding personal tragedy to his brief career with the team.
