Client processor shipments rose 2.2 percent from the previous quarter, while server chip deliveries jumped 13.7 percent compared with the same period last year, according to John Peddie Research data released for the third quarter of 2025. The research firm attributed the sustained expansion primarily to Windows 10 reaching end of support, which forced users with older hardware to purchase new systems meeting Windows 11 requirements, such as TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot capabilities.
Desktop and laptop processors maintained their respective 30 percent and 70 percent market shares after the laptop segment briefly gained ground during the second quarter. Earlier quarterly increases stemmed partly from concerns over potential tariffs, though the Windows 10 transition became the dominant factor driving upgrades.
