Cuban ambassador calls for end to US blockade against Cuba

Cuba's ambassador to Zimbabwe asked for an end to American economic restrictions that have lasted more than 60 years. Susellys Pérez Mesa said the measures break international laws and harm her nation's development rights.

Mesa noted that Cuba and Zimbabwe face similar sanctions and support each other against policies that block national progress. Foreign ministers from both countries confirmed their partnership at the United Nations General Assembly's 80th session.

The UN General Assembly will vote on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, for the 33rd time on a resolution demanding that the United States lift its commercial and financial restrictions against Cuba. The resolution addresses what Mesa called comprehensive economic aggression against the Caribbean nation.
