Cuttack decks Durga in gold, silver for Saptami

Cuttack's Durga Puja celebrations feature renowned gold and silver filigree craftsmanship that adorns the goddess idols and their backdrops. On Monday, worshippers observed Maha Saptami, the seventh day when devotees believe the deity descends to earth through sacred rituals performed by priests. The ceremonies involve invoking life into the idol through chants, installing the sacred pot, and drawing the eyes of the goddess to officially begin worship.

The Haripur Pithapur Puja Committee dedicated its pandal to Operation Sindoor, honoring families who sacrificed lives in service. Cuttack Mayor Subhash Singh emphasized the unique arrangements bring together people from all political parties, religious groups, and communities. Maha Saptami marks the start of the goddess's battle against demon king Mahishasura in her fierce Kaalratri form. The celebration holds particular importance across eastern India, where families gather for traditional feasts, prayers, and cultural performances before the festival concludes with Vijaya Dashami.
