Dad, claiming poverty, was ordered to fork over $100 for the kids

A guy just got legally ordered to cough up more cash for his kids. Harare magistrate Hannah Fazilahmed ruled against Itai Chikepe, demanding monthly child support payments of one hundred dollars. His former partner, Deliwe Shana, had sought two hundred dollars for their two children’s expenses, citing rising school costs.

Chikepe argued he only made thirty dollars monthly from selling tomatoes and airtime in Gweru after losing a job. He claimed Shana moved the children to a private school, charging two hundred forty dollars per term without his agreement. The magistrate found his claimed income not credible, given his other dependents.

Fazilahmed stated the court did not believe his reported earnings. She advised him to find better employment to support his total of five children. The ruling also requires Chikepe to cover half of all educational expenses. The case involved broader disputes over child access and paternity, which require a separate hearing.

Shana defended the school change, alleging the prior institution lacked basic standards. She accused Chikepe of inconsistent support, forcing her to pay fees alone. The magistrate’s order stands regardless of his relocation for a lower cost of living.
