Dar RC leads talks on fuel security and marketing improvements

Albert Chalamila, the Regional Commissioner for Dar es Salaam, led a crucial meeting today with fuel industry stakeholders to address concerns about fuel security and marketing strategies. The session, organized by the Energy Regulatory Authority (EWURA), focused on ensuring the safety of fuel stations following recent incidents of vandalism and arson carried out by groups targeting the sector. These attacks caused significant losses for fuel traders.

During the discussion, Chalamila expressed his regret for the challenges faced by fuel station operators and reassured them of the government's continued support. He highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts to secure fuel distribution, acknowledging that certain sectors, like telecommunications and transportation, rely on fuel to function. Chalamila also stressed the need for ongoing public education to foster peace, particularly among youth groups like motorcycle riders, to protect the region’s stability, which is vital for economic activities and services.

Stakeholders expressed their gratitude for the government’s attention to their concerns and urged it to engage with banks to provide more flexible repayment terms for the loans many have taken. Ilala District Commissioner Edward Mpogolo advised fuel traders to enhance security measures and avoid mixing other businesses with fuel sales to ensure safer operations.
