DCI unveils children’s playground at headquarters

Kenya's criminal investigation bureau has opened a recreational facility for children at its Nairobi headquarters, marking an effort to support officer families beyond traditional law enforcement duties. The playground can serve more than 150 youngsters and was constructed through a partnership with the Chandaria Foundation, led by industrialist Dr Manu Chandaria.

Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin said during the handover ceremony that the project reflects the agency's recognition that officer welfare depends partly on family well-being. He described the space as an opportunity for young people to build skills like teamwork and discipline through play. Amin expressed gratitude to the foundation for funding the initiative and encouraged children to maintain the new amenity.

Dr Chandaria praised the DCI for creating supportive environments beyond operational responsibilities and thanked construction crews for completing work on schedule. Senior DCI officials attended the event, where Dr Chandaria planted a tree to mark the occasion. The facility represents an unusual community-focused initiative for an institution typically associated with investigating serious crimes.
