DPP-AFORD vows to move MRA headquarters back to Blantyre

The Democratic Progressive Party and Alliance for Democracy coalition presents economic reforms through their manifesto for 2025 to 2030. Their administration plans to establish a smaller cabinet while reducing expenditures on official residences. The alliance will eliminate Value Added Tax exemptions for public officers and pursue consolidated fiscal policies. These measures target improved economic discipline and enhanced public confidence in government financial management. The partnership seeks to restore balance between regional development priorities.

International Monetary Fund negotiations will commence during the initial six months after taking office. The coalition intends to secure an Extended Credit Facility agreement designed for Malawi's specific economic circumstances. This strategy aims to strengthen foreign currency reserves and support the kwacha while promoting long-term fiscal stability. Malawi Revenue Authority headquarters will return to Blantyre along with the Housing Corporation and Prison Services. The alliance considers relocating these institutions from Lilongwe essential for administrative effectiveness and equitable regional growth.
