Debswana handed Betesankwe a P4.1 million clinic

A soccer tournament in Botswana just funded a whole-ass clinic, and the P4.1 million price tag makes it one of the wildest community fundraisers anyone's seen in a while. Debswana's Jwaneng Mine delivered the Betesankwe Clinic, with General Manager Goitseone Gadifele calling it way more than a building. The whole thing was bankrolled by the annual GM's Soccer Fiesta.

And the clinic isn't just for show. Residents get maternal care, immunizations, and help with everyday ailments without trekking to distant facilities. That takes heat off nearby clinics dealing with growing populations. Gadifele shouted out every sponsor, volunteer, and football squad that made the fundraiser work, which gives the whole project a grassroots energy you rarely see from mining companies.

The next Soccer Fiesta is already locked in for Galaxy Stadium, and the plan is to keep funneling proceeds into future community builds. Debswana's been running this play for five decades, turning diamond revenue into schools, roads, and health infrastructure. But a football tournament straight-up paying for a clinic? Genuinely fun model. Betesankwe residents are the ones cashing that check.
