Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah told Parliament that rumors about mass military firings were wrong. Assin South MP John Ntim Fordjour asked questions based on false information about senior officer terminations. Boamah said the wrong claims could mislead citizens watching on television. Deputy minister Brogya Genfi joined him during Wednesday appearance before lawmakers. The minister wanted to correct bad information before it spread further.
Boamah explained that eight Major Generals would start retirement leave because they reached mandatory age limits. Four other senior officers between ages 60 and 62 face early release under normal military rules. Major General Aryeetey received special treatment because the United Nations nominated him for promotion. Twelve total officers were affected rather than the fifteen claimed earlier. Military regulations allow early departure before the official retirement age of 63 years.
