Delhi to launch month-long Freedom from Garbage drive in August for Independence Day

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a month-long cleanliness campaign beginning August 1. The Freedom from Garbage initiative will run through August 31 as part of Independence Day celebrations. Weekend programs will occur every Saturday and Sunday during the campaign period. Residents can upload before and after photographs through a dedicated online portal to document their efforts.

Government officials will finalize campaign responsibilities during a July 29 meeting at the Civic Centre. Ministers, parliamentarians, councillors and association representatives will attend this planning session. The initiative targets schools, government offices, hospitals, markets, industrial zones, and transportation hubs. All Delhi government departments will participate alongside resident welfare associations, market groups, and educational institutions.

Special emphasis will address slum areas, unauthorized colonies, and informal settlements. The campaign aims to collect significantly more waste than typical collection days. Gupta appealed for active citizen participation to achieve meaningful cleanliness improvements. Government ministers, legislators, and municipal councillors will lead community involvement efforts throughout the capital.
