Dell brings back XPS lineup with Intel Ultra Series 3 laptops

Dell caved to user backlash and revived the XPS name. The company is bringing back its XPS laptop line with two new models for this year, the XPS 16 and XPS 14, and teased a future XPS 13. This reverses last year's decision to kill the XPS branding for a simpler naming scheme that apparently nobody liked. The new machines start at two thousand fifty dollars for the 14-inch model and two thousand two hundred dollars for the 16-inch version, with availability starting immediately. They are built with aluminum and Gorilla Glass, weighing from three pounds.

Both laptops will use Intel's latest Core Ultra Series 3 processors, with configs going up to a 16-core chip. They can be outfitted with up to 64 gigabytes of fast memory and up to 4 terabytes of storage. The displays are a big focus, with the XPS 16 offering either a 2K LCD or a 3.2K OLED screen. The XPS 14 has similar 2K LCD or 2.8K OLED options. The higher-end OLED panels support a high refresh rate and a specific HDR standard. Battery life is claimed to reach up to twenty-seven hours under typical use.

The thermal system uses larger fans that are supposedly quieter. The laptops feature Wi-Fi 7, three Thunderbolt ports, and a high-resolution webcam. A quad-speaker setup and a haptic touchpad are included. They pack a 70-watt-hour battery and ship with a 100-watt charger. The company also hinted at an XPS 13 model coming later, promising it would be the thinnest and lightest design ever in the series. Some configurations for the new laptops, including a top-tier processor option and a Linux install on the smaller model, will arrive after the initial launch.
