Delta State Boils Over Army Firing on Protesters

A rights group criticized Nigerian soldiers for attacking peaceful protesters near Abraka Community. The Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement demands Governor Sheriff Oborevwori protect Delta State residents better. Group leader Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen wants the governor to focus more on keeping people safe. Security problems spread across many areas and need quick government action. Crime affects communities from Asaba to Ughelli and beyond.

Kidnapping rates have reached dangerous levels throughout Delta State. Armed robbers and suspected Fulani herders attack local people regularly. Citizens gathered Monday to protest against these crimes and killings. Military forces shot at the peaceful demonstrators instead of helping them. The rights group questions who gave soldiers permission to fire on citizens.

State security services seem to focus on politics rather than protecting people. Intelligence agencies should gather information about criminals instead of threatening concerned residents. Deputy Speaker Arthur Akpowowo represents the Ethiope East area but problems continue. Many residents wonder if their state government cares about their safety. Officials must prioritize citizen welfare over political games.
