Demon Slayer manga shatters records with 220 million copies sold worldwide

Shueisha Inc. announced that Koyoharu Gotoge's manga series has reached 220 million copies sold globally. The publisher confirmed that this figure encompasses both digital editions and physical volumes. Weekly Shonen Jump featured the series from 2016 through 2020. The story follows Tanjiro Kamado as he fights demons and seeks healing for his transformed sister. Publishers report that only select manga titles achieve such massive circulation numbers.

The 2020 animated adaptation generated 40 billion yen at Japanese box offices. This revenue total marked the first domestic film to surpass that threshold. Friday brings the premiere of a new animated feature titled "Infinity Castle" to Japanese theaters. Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Piece represent other Weekly Shonen Jump properties that have exceeded 200 million copies. These four series demonstrate the enduring appeal of adventure manga among global audiences.
