The first hint dropped when Bungie_Leaks reposted protected info from another account mentioning early development plus some kind of Destiny 2 classic mode getting approved. Colony Deaks backed it up saying the team has been sitting on this intel for weeks but wanted to wait since everything is super preliminary.
Destiny 2 keeps hitting rock bottom player counts on Steam after the Edge of Fate expansion flopped hard. Sony even ate a $204 million loss because sales tanked worse than expected. The studio tried smaller content drops instead of making a sequel but that strategy clearly bombed with the community only willing to come back for a full reset.
