Dhaka envoy Touhid jets to Kuala Lumpur for ASEAN security showdown

Bangladesh's top diplomat packed his bags and headed to Malaysia on Wednesday. Md Touhid Hossain caught a flight from Dhaka around midday bound for Kuala Lumpur. The Foreign Affairs Adviser plans to spend several days at an important regional meeting. He expects to return home on July 12 after wrapping up his official business. Government sources confirmed his travel schedule to local reporters.

The 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum kicks off on July 10 and runs through July 11. This major gathering brings together nations from across the Asia Pacific region. Countries send their foreign ministers and other senior officials to discuss security matters. The forum focuses on keeping peace through talks rather than military action. Member nations work together to solve problems before they become serious conflicts.

Bangladesh joined this exclusive club back in 2006 during a meeting held in the Malaysian capital. The country earned its spot as a partner after years of diplomatic efforts. Regional leaders welcomed Bangladesh into the group during the thirteenth annual session. This marked a significant achievement for the South Asian nation's foreign policy goals. The forum itself started operating in 1994 after Southeast Asian countries agreed to create it.

The organization began taking shape during meetings held in Singapore back in 1993. ASEAN ministers decided the region needed a dedicated security forum. They wanted a place where different countries could meet regularly and discuss regional challenges. The first official gathering took place in Bangkok the following year. Today the forum continues promoting stability across one of the world's most dynamic regions.
