Dhaka reassures envoys, vows fortress-like embassy security

Bangladeshi officials told foreign diplomats their embassies in Dhaka will be safe during the upcoming national election and referendum. The Foreign Ministry gave this briefing at the Padma state guesthouse. Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam ran the meeting for about 40 diplomats based in the city. He detailed the government's security plans for the election period.

Siam stated that all law enforcement and military units are on maximum alert right now. He claimed these forces are totally ready to handle any potential trouble. The government's press release emphasized its preparedness for possible incidents.

The briefing also covered international election observers. Officials confirmed that the Election Commission is set to host foreign monitors for the parliamentary polls. They have already asked multiple countries to send observer missions.
