Doug Ford halts controversial ad after Trump fury

Ontario Premier Doug Ford suspended a trade advertisement campaign after former President Donald Trump terminated negotiations with Canada. The $ 75 million Canadian-dollar effort featured Ronald Reagan discussing tariffs and aired on major American television networks. Trump labeled the content misleading and accused Canada of lacking commitment to serious discussions.

Ford defended the material as genuine Reagan commentary but stopped the broadcasts after consulting Prime Minister Mark Carney. White House representative Kush Desai said the advertisement distorted a 1987 Reagan radio address. Canadian officials stated the campaign successfully reached American decision makers despite diplomatic friction.

The dispute threatens multiple industries as trade negotiations remain frozen. Carney emphasized that Canada must focus on controllable factors while diversifying its commercial partnerships beyond the United States. Ford confirmed the advertisements would continue through the weekend baseball championship before ending on Monday.
