DP Kindiki Vows Crackdown on Protest Violence and Attacks on Security Posts

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki threatened strong action against people who attacked police stations and government buildings. He spoke Friday at a community event for women, youth and small business owners in Kitui Rural constituency. Kindiki condemned violent protests that happened Wednesday across Kenya. The deputy president promised to pursue attackers with the same methods used against Al Shabaab militants. He said the government considers these attacks a major threat to the country.

Kindiki stated that criminal groups had taken over peaceful youth demonstrations. He blamed these groups for turning protests about government accountability into violent chaos. The deputy president said Kenya cannot allow destruction of security and stability. He warned that law enforcement will act quickly to prevent more violence. Kindiki said the government will protect the nation even if it becomes politically unpopular.

The deputy president reminded people about Kenya's difficult past experiences with violence. He mentioned the 1982 military coup attempt and the deadly 2007 election riots. Kindiki said those events caused lasting damage that Kenya still feels today. He promised the country would not go through such trauma again. The deputy president said constitutional rights to protest do not allow violence or attacks on security forces.
