DPP Eats Crow Over Muluzi Family Feud

The Democratic Progressive Party said sorry to former President Bakili Muluzi after harsh words from party official Sameer Suleman. Suleman made the comments after UDF President Atupele Muluzi spoke at a rally in Machinga district. Atupele told DPP leader Arthur Peter Mutharika to quit the September 2025 presidential race because of his age. He wants younger leaders to run the country. Many people got angry at these remarks because they see Mutharika as the best candidate to beat President Chakwera.

Suleman fired back at Atupele and said he should care for his sick father instead of telling Mutharika what to do. DPP Vice President Joseph Mwanamvekha called these words unnecessary and said Suleman spoke out of anger. He asked both men to apologize and make peace. Suleman agreed to say sorry to Bakili Muluzi to keep their friendship strong. The party wants to avoid more fights between political leaders.

Esnath Kaliza Banda from Lilongwe wrote on Facebook that Atupele might join the MCP party. She said this could help answer questions about Vice President Chilima's mysterious death in June 2024. Banda thinks Atupele could break the silence around what really happened in the Chikangawa forest crash. She believes the MCP has not told people the full truth about the tragedy.
