Dr. Abu Bakary Jallow launches Fulani migration history book in Kanifing

Dr. Abu Bakary Jallow presented his new book about Fulani history at Ebunjan Theatre on July 18, 2025. The 167-page work explores the journey of Fulani people from ancient Babylon to Fuuta Jalon through 22 detailed chapters. Jallow described his research as more than simple storytelling, calling it a cultural manifesto that challenges colonial historical distortions.

The author traced Fulani ancestry back to Abraham, following migration patterns that connected Babylonian and North African origins. He presented Fuuta Jalon as an important center of learning rather than a place of conquest. Jallow emphasized that his work helps people reclaim their historical narrative through oral traditions and careful research.

The Gambian launch represents one stop on an international tour that has visited New York, Atlanta, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Mali. Students, academics, and community elders attended the event and praised the book as an inspiring contribution. Jallow encouraged attendees to document their histories with dignity and resist distorted historical accounts.
