Dr. Arthur Kennedy Criticizes NPP's Plan for Flagbearer Election Process

Dr. Arthur Kennedy spoke against his former party's plans for choosing new leaders. The New Patriotic Party wants to pick a presidential candidate before renewing other leadership positions. Kennedy ran for party leadership before and thinks this approach creates problems. He made these comments during a television interview on Wednesday. The opposition group announced it will select its 2028 presidential nominee on January 31, 2026.

Kennedy believes party executives should seek new terms before any flagbearer contest happens. Current national leaders will see their authority end within twelve months. The former candidate says this violates democratic principles the party has followed for decades. Party founder B.J. da Rocha established traditions that required executive elections first. Kennedy argues the current plan looks like political manipulation.

The critic warns that choosing a flagbearer first gives that person power over executive selections. This candidate could influence who gets leadership positions after winning the nomination. Kennedy calls this process completely wrong and against proper democratic order. He thinks executives are trying to protect their positions through this backwards approach. The former aspirant also attacked party leaders for hiding an important election review report from Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye.
