Dr Makubu Appeals for Restraint After Nkwanta Student Killed in Tribal Violence

A former government minister has called for peace after deadly violence struck a high school community. Dr. Joshua Makubu served as Minister for the Oti Region before making his public appeal. One student from Nkwanta Senior High School died when gunfire erupted during fresh tribal fighting. The shooting left the community shaken and families grieving. Makubu described the death as devastating for everyone affected.

The former minister asked all sides to stop fighting and let justice work. He wants people to remember how the Adele, Challa and Akyode communities have lived together peacefully before. Makubu believes state officials should handle the investigation without interference. He said the area has seen enough deaths already. The leader emphasized that no more blood should be spilled.

Two other female students suffered gunshot wounds as they walked to school that morning. Both girls are recovering at a local hospital after receiving medical treatment. Their injuries came from stray bullets during the violence. Medical staff continue monitoring their progress. Families remain hopeful about their recovery.

Police have arrested eight people suspected of involvement in the fighting. The suspects are helping security forces understand what happened during the violence. Officials say the trouble started after traditional ceremonies for the new yam harvest. Authorities imposed a curfew to prevent more attacks. The restriction aims to restore calm and protect residents from further harm.
