Driver loses car and cash to fake ride robbers

Armed robbers stole a car and cash from an InDrive driver after pretending to be customers. Mannex Nyengedza picked up four passengers from downtown Harare who turned violent near Old Mazowe Road. One passenger suddenly pulled the handbrake. Another pointed a gun at Nyengedza's head during the attack.

The criminals dragged the 29-year-old Sunningdale resident from his red Toyota Passo. They searched him thoroughly and took his Itel P36 phone along with $380 cash. Nyengedza suffered a swollen forehead from the assault before the thieves drove away in his vehicle, leaving him stranded on the roadside.

Police later found the abandoned Toyota Passo in a ditch along Lorraine Drive. The car remained undamaged despite the incident. Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said investigators are looking into the armed robbery case. A helpful bystander assisted Nyengedza in contacting his vehicle's owner after the attack.

Law enforcement continues to search for the suspects, but no arrests have been made so far. Police have warned ride-hailing drivers about the dangers of picking up groups of strangers. The case highlights growing safety concerns for drivers working with mobile transportation apps in the area.
