Drivers in Zim Scramble as New Licences Need Retests

Zimbabwe wants drivers to take new road tests soon. A car testing official named Bumhira shared this plan with police last Thursday. The country gave out plastic license cards last year instead of metal ones. These new cards last five years, but the old metal ones never ran out. Officials worry that people look different as they age or need glasses they never used before.

All drivers must prove they can still drive safely through fresh tests. Your face might change over time from the picture on your card. You might wear glasses you never needed when you first passed. The testing office runs everything on computers these days. Drivers should take new tests before their cards expire to avoid problems later.

The plastic cards work across southern African countries, unlike the old metal discs. Testing helps make sure people driving cars can see well and handle traffic. The rules match what other nearby countries expect from their drivers. Workers must check if their current look matches their license photo. Waiting until the last minute might cause trouble for those who need their cars daily.
