East Africa crude pipeline now 62 percent done

Workers have finished building more than half of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline. The massive project reaches 62 percent completion according to energy officials from Uganda and Tanzania. Teams expect to pump the first oil through the system next June. Inspectors from both countries checked progress at different sites across the region. Construction crews work around the clock to meet their deadline.

Pump station one shows strong progress at 58 percent finished. The station plays a key role for the 1443 kilometer pipeline stretching between countries. Over 1000 kilometers of pipes arrived from China and Greece. Workers prepared 800 kilometers of these pipes with special coatings. Crews can ship the ready pipes to construction areas across Uganda and Tanzania.

Drilling teams made good progress at the Kingfisher and Tilenga oil fields. They completed 18 wells out of 31 planned for Kingfisher. The Kingfisher processing facility reached 65 percent completion. Workers finished the feeder pipeline connecting Kingfisher to the main pump station. These developments bring the project closer to producing its first barrel of oil.

Local people benefit from jobs created during construction. Companies hired over 1000 Ugandans specifically for one part of the work. About 2000 local workers found employment since 2022 across all project areas. Officials visited Kabalega International Airport and the Kingfisher site during their inspection tour. Tanzania officials report faster progress on their longer section of the pipeline.
