Human resource practitioners and middle managers attended a workshop on Friday, organized by the Employers Consultative Association of Malawi in Blantyre, to learn strategies for managing workplace discipline more effectively and reducing legal costs. Grace Muzamhindo, who serves on the ECAM Council and chairs the Marketing Committee, stated that the training aimed to help organizations handle staff discipline consistently while avoiding expensive disputes before the Industrial Relations Court. The session covered termination procedures, performance management systems, operational requirements, no-fault dismissals, and grievance handling errors that commonly lead to conflicts.
Christina Masamba, who serves as Branch Manager for First Capital Bank in Limbe, stated that the workshop addressed the challenges managers face daily, and the skills gained would help prevent workplace disputes. Muzamhindo stated the initiative supports employers in strengthening their advocacy capabilities, shaping labor policies, and building a business climate that encourages economic expansion. Participants left the training with practical tools to promote workplace productivity through fair disciplinary procedures rather than generating conflict.
