ECI warns West Bengal - hands off our election crew

The Election Commission of India plans to launch a Special Intensive Revision in West Bengal during the upcoming month. The Chief Electoral Officer has implemented comprehensive safety measures to protect the revision process from interference. Booth-Level Officers will serve as primary field operatives for this electoral exercise. These officers received direct orders to report any obstruction from political parties or administrative personnel to the CEO office immediately.

The CEO office will forward serious interference cases to the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi. Officials who obstruct Booth-Level Officers face potential disciplinary measures recommended by the commission. Security protocols for field officers undergo thorough examination by senior CEO staff members. The Election Commission has directed all CEO offices to prioritize officer safety during field operations. Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari has voiced concerns about officer protection, particularly after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee repeatedly emphasized that these officers remain state government employees.
