Bangladesh's Election Commission has issued stern warnings against the use of force or bias in the forthcoming 13th national election. Election Commissioner Brig Gen (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah stated that individuals deploying muscle power and officials showing partiality would face serious repercussions.
Speaking during consultations with registered political parties at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, Sanaullah acknowledged that Bangladesh's electoral culture has suffered significant damage from past irregularities. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin presided over the sessions, which brought together representatives from Gano Forum, Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Trinamool BNP, and several other parties.
The commissioner called on political organizations to help rebuild a climate of respect and tolerance necessary for credible polls. Additional consultations with 12 more parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Amar Bangladesh Party, are scheduled to conclude the three-part dialogue series.
