Edinburgh jail admits Allan Marshall killing after decade of denial

The Scottish Prison Service acknowledged wrongdoing after Allan Marshall died during custody at HMP Edinburgh ten years ago. Marshall, aged 30, suffered fatal injuries when seventeen officers restrained him face down in March 2015. He passed away four days following the incident. The Court of Session determined that excessive force caused his unlawful death.

Officials from three agencies issued public apologies to Marshall's family following the court ruling on institutional failures. The deceased man faced remand charges for unpaid fines and peace violations when he experienced mental distress. Prison authorities moved him to segregation before the fatal restraint occurred with plastic restraints. His relatives endured a decade-long battle seeking acknowledgment of wrongdoing and inadequate police investigations.
