Effutu MP Fires Back at Fuel Levy Rumor

Alexander Afenyo-Markin serves as Minority Leader and represents Effutu district. He denied supporting the one cedi fuel tax that people call the dumsor levy. Social media videos show him talking about energy problems during Parliament meetings. The lawmaker urged both political parties to work together on power issues. He wanted lawmakers to fix electricity problems without playing politics.

Afenyo-Markin posted on social media Saturday to clear up confusion about his statements. People misunderstood his Friday speech about energy sector reforms. He called for changes at the Electricity Company of Ghana rather than new taxes. The politician wants the Energy Minister to bring reform plans to Parliament. He believes Parliament should review these changes instead of letting ministers act alone.

The former ECG Board Chairman knows about the company's money problems from his past experience. Only thirty percent of power users actually pay their electricity bills according to reports he read. Many homes and businesses steal power through illegal connections or lack proper meters. He considers this the real crisis that needs immediate attention. Revenue collection problems threaten the entire power system's future stability.
