Elden Ring Nightreign Snubs Duo Teams, Fans Fume

FromSoftware prepares to launch Elden Ring Nightreign next week for eager players worldwide. IGN spoke with Game Director Junya Ishizaki about the upcoming multiplayer game before its release. Critics complain that the game works best with either one player or three players together. Ishizaki admitted his team forgot about two-player groups during the development process. The director apologized and said developers might add Duo support after the game launches.

The team focused completely on creating balanced gameplay for three players working together. Ishizaki understands that solo players also want to enjoy the experience alone. Developers spent lots of time making sure single players could handle the challenges. Two-player teams got ignored during this careful balancing work across all game systems. The studio considers adding proper duo support through updates after release.

Elden Ring Nightreign removes all player-versus-player combat, unlike the original Elden Ring game. Ishizaki said his team never planned to add PvP fighting between players. Each character has special abilities that would be hard to balance for competitive play. Balancing characters for both cooperation and competition would hurt the core game design. The development team wanted to focus only on cooperative player-versus-environment gameplay.
