Election Commission rejects Rahul Gandhi's vote theft claim as BJP and JD-U lash out

The Election Commission rejected Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi's claims about vote manipulation during Karnataka's 2024 parliamentary elections. Gandhi alleged officials stole votes but provided no formal petition within legal deadlines. The commission stated such public accusations cannot replace proper court procedures.

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders accused Gandhi of damaging his office's reputation through desperate tactics. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai noted the irony that Gandhi questioned elections supervised by his party's state government. BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain linked these statements to anticipated losses in upcoming Bihar elections.

Janata Dal-United officials supported the Election Commission's decision. Senior leader Madan Sahni praised the commission's impartial work and criticized questioning institutional credibility without evidence. Congress MLA Shakeel Ahmad Khan defended Gandhi's position and questioned the commission's neutrality. Karnataka's Chief Electoral Officer confirmed that all political parties received copies of voter rolls during the revision process.
