Elenite evacuees warned but wave hit anyway

Emergency crews evacuated approximately 100 people across Bulgaria after severe flooding struck coastal areas, and Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov confirmed the most critical situation occurred in Elenite. Firefighters responded to more than 400 calls within 24 hours, and 340 incidents involved weather-related emergencies such as fallen trees and building security measures. Teams worked through the night to relocate residents from Elenite and Tsarevo, but a second wave struck unexpectedly at 11:20 a.m. on Friday despite earlier warnings.

Authorities provided accommodation in local complexes and municipal facilities with water and food for displaced residents. Material damage remains under assessment by municipal commissions, and officials confirmed extensive losses to vehicles, infrastructure, and buildings. The regional governor activated the BG-Alert system after the unexpected second wave endangered evacuation efforts, and response teams remained on site to secure affected areas and prevent further casualties from structural collapses.
