Elmina Residents Protest Against Paramount Chief Over Leadership Failures

People from Elmina have marched through their town demanding their chief step down after 27 years of bad leadership. The angry residents call themselves Sweet Elmina and want Nana Kojo Kondua VI removed from power immediately. They say he has never explained what happened to money from local businesses and historic sites. The group includes young people and older community members who feel betrayed by their traditional ruler.

Phillip Kondua spoke for the protesters and said the chief has hidden financial information from everyone. He claims the leader took money from the cold store, salt factories, and tourism at Elmina Castle without telling anyone. The community has never received reports about how their resources were used over nearly three decades. Major festivals like Edina Bakatue happen each year but residents never learn where the profits go.

Trust between the chief and his people has completely broken down because of these problems. Elmina remains underdeveloped despite having valuable cultural attractions that bring visitors and income. The protesters have banned their traditional ruler from attending the next Bakatue Festival celebration. Communities across Ghana are demanding better accountability from their chiefs and political leaders than ever before.
