Elon Musk's xAI targets the compute power of 50 million NVIDIA H100s

Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI plans a massive expansion of computing capabilities through unprecedented hardware investments. The firm will launch its Colossus 2 cluster within weeks, housing 550,000 NVIDIA Blackwell-based processors worth approximately $2 trillion. Musk aims to acquire computing power equivalent to 50 million H100 AI chips over five years, requiring additional investments between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion.

The planned infrastructure would deliver 200 exaFLOPS of processing power, surpassing the world's fastest supercomputer by twenty times. Other technology leaders pursue similar strategies, with OpenAI targeting 100 million AI chips and Meta developing gigawatt-scale clusters. These commitments demonstrate sustained industry demand for advanced AI hardware despite speculation about market cooling.
