Entebbe Airport Crash Drill Unleashes Chaos and Heroics

Entebbe Airport workers practiced for plane crashes on Friday afternoon. The drill lasted two hours and started at 1309 hours. Emergency teams pretended that the East Sky Airlines flight had gone down near runway 12/30. Workers acted like the Embraer 190 plane had caught fire after hitting the ground. Airport firefighters and rescue groups rushed to save passengers during the fake disaster.

The practice crash involved 100 people on the airplane. Officials pretended that 95 passengers and five crew members needed help. Emergency workers acted like 25 people had died in the accident. Teams treated 13 hurt passengers and helped 62 others escape without injuries. Ambulances took the worst cases to hospitals around Entebbe and Kampala.

Fred Bamwesigye leads the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority and praised the exercise. More than 600 people from 50 different groups participated in the drill. Medical teams, security officers, and firefighting companies also took part. Airport workers and outside agencies worked side by side during the emergency practice. Bamwesigye said the drill tested how well everyone could work under pressure.

International airports must hold these emergency drills every two years. The last practice was at Entebbe Airport in 2023. Aviation rules require member countries to test their emergency response systems. The drill checks how well different agencies can work together during real emergencies. These exercises help airports stay ready for actual disasters.
