Malaysia will launch expanded electric rail connections to its southern border by mid-December at the latest, with officials expecting the new route to boost visitor access before major tourism campaigns begin next year. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said on Sunday the service extension supports both Visit Malaysia 2026 and Visit Johor 2026 initiatives while improving mobility for communities in smaller municipalities along the corridor.
The minister told reporters that final technical preparations remain underway before authorities announce fare structures for the extended line. Passengers will gain access to stops serving Segamat, Labis, Kluang and Kulai before trains reach their southern terminus at Johor Bahru Sentral Station. Loke expressed confidence the additional transportation option will benefit the state's tourism economy, particularly in secondary urban centers that previously lacked direct rail connections to major population hubs.
