Etung chiefs demand Oru Ojong back on throne

Community leaders from the Mbume bloc demand restoration of their traditional monarch following a prolonged succession dispute. The Crisis Management Committee seeks immediate return of HRM Ntufam Dr. Emmanuel Oru-Ojong to his position as Paramount Ruler of Etung Local Government Area. Committee Chairman Ntufam Odu Ndep Moses addressed officials in Calabar regarding the territorial conflict. Representatives from Abia, Bendeghe Ekiem, and Etomi communities reject the appointment of any interim ruler. The group maintains that temporary leadership arrangements contradict established customs within their traditional system.

Legal proceedings established Dr. Oru-Ojong as the legitimate authority through High Court case HC/96/2022. Justice Elias Abuo rendered judgment affirming the suspended leader while restricting rival claimant Ntufam Anthony Ntui Eta. The committee requests prosecution of Eta for allegedly violating judicial orders. Governor Bassey Otu received appeals for swift intervention to enforce court decisions. However, Eta denies receiving official removal notices and dismisses community pressure campaigns.
