EU Grounds All Tanzanian and Surinamese Planes

Europe banned all airlines from Tanzania and Suriname from flying to European countries. Safety experts found serious problems with how both nations watch over their airlines. The European Commission made the decision after checking flight safety rules and finding many failures. Airlines from these countries cannot enter European airspace until they fix their safety issues.

The ban affects 169 airlines total from 17 different countries around the world. Russian carriers and airlines from countries like Afghanistan, Angola, and Sudan already face similar restrictions. European officials say passenger safety comes first when making these tough choices. Airlines must meet international safety standards before they can fly to Europe again.

Tanzania and Suriname lack enough trained workers to oversee their airlines properly. Their governments do not check flight operations and aircraft maintenance well enough. European transport officials want both countries to improve their aviation safety systems quickly. The European Union offers help to fix these problems and restore flight access later.
