EU Snubs Sahrawi Republic at Brussels Summit

The European Union made clear it does not recognize SADR at all. An EU spokesperson talked about this when asked about a meeting with African countries next week in Brussels. The spokesperson explained that both the EU and the African Union organize these meetings together. Any group at the meeting comes because the African Union invited them, not the EU. The EU wanted people to know they did not ask SADR to attend.

The spokesperson stressed that no country in the European Union accepts SADR as a real state. This has been the EU's position for a long time and remains unchanged today. The African Union makes its choices about who attends from its side. Just because someone sits at a meeting does not mean the EU views them as official. The EU wanted to make sure everyone understood this important point about its policy.
