Ex-CID Spokesman Busted in Museveni Hit Plot

Charles Twiine faced charges at Buganda Road court on Thursday for planning attacks against President Museveni and his son, General Muhoozi. The former police spokesman appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi alongside Noah Mutwe, a bodyguard for opposition leader Bobi Wine. Prosecutors claim Twiine sent social media messages urging Mutwe to kill the president using pavers. Court officials say he also targeted General Muhoozi for similar violence. Mutwe has been locked up for two weeks before this court appearance.

State lawyers accuse both men of breaking computer misuse laws through harmful online content. Twiine allegedly called the parliament speaker, Anita Among, a rotten person and blamed her for deaths in Bukedea district. He reportedly labeled Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa a money launderer and fraudster. Prosecutors say he called General Muhoozi a fat pig and described General James Birungi as a killer. The former officer also allegedly attacked the Bahima tribe as killers to promote ethnic hatred.

Both suspects denied all criminal charges during their court session. Magistrate Kayizzi sent them to Luzira Prison until June 5 for more hearings. The case shocked security and political circles, given Twiine's former high rank as police spokesperson. His past support for state kidnappings and torture made the charges more surprising. Legal experts expect intense public interest as proceedings continue.
